❇️ How to define and test waterproofing & breathability for performance fabrics used for hunting | outdoor wears❓
❇️ We heard too many times, "We need great waterproofing on fabrics, level 4 around." "We expect 20 000 waterproofing & 20 000 high breathability layers fabrics for outdoor gear, could you achieve that?" Ok, but when we asked for details, like AATCC/ISO/other test standards, they quit, like all is our business, nothing with theirs. 🥲
❇️ So, it's necessary to tell these before sending over an inquiry to a mill/factory, samples will be more exact and this will save much time for communication as well.
❇️ For outdoor wears, on the one side, you need shelter yourself with clothing. But on the other hand, breathability and releasing heat between the body and clothing matters a lot, this performance is mainly achieved by performance fabrics. For its test, you need use moisture permeability tester to define and get exact data. 💠
❇️ What easily miss up is telling waterproofing, there are two normal test machines for waterproofing testing as below,
1️⃣ Spray rating: tetsing the fabric surface's waterproofing/ DWR, supporting AATCC/ ISO/BS/EN 4920:2012... test standards. And results could be divided into level 2/3/4/5... 💠
2️⃣ Hydrostatic head: it tests how much water pressure the fabric could support, it matters lot to resist heavy rains or extreme weather, 💠 supporting AATCC/ ISO/BS/EN 811: 2018... standards. Normal requirements ranges from 3000 to 20 000 mm/ H2O. 💠
